The Red Thread

Once our eyes have been opened we can't pretend that
we don't know what to do; for God who weighs our hearts and keeps our souls
knows that we know and holds us responsible to act. Proverbs

Not What We Were Hoping For

Owen had his highly anticipated swallow test today and it was not the news we were looking for, the hole is still open.  We had also anticipated that they would schedule a "major" surgery to surgically repair the hole but that is also on hold for now.  The doctor said we must wait until his esophagus is staying open and not having to be stretched every 3-4 weeks.

When they perform the big surgery it will require about two months of recovery for the esophagus to heal and we can not stretch the esophagus to open it up after working on the hole.  So we will schedule another procedure for stretching and patching.  Sounds like it will be at least a few more months of stretching and patching.  Maybe we will get lucky and one of the patches will work.

We had a social worker out today for a follow up and she was amazed at how much Owen had progressed since her last visit.  She met Owen just a few weeks after we got home and he was not very mobile and was very skinny.  How things have changed.....
