The Red Thread

Once our eyes have been opened we can't pretend that
we don't know what to do; for God who weighs our hearts and keeps our souls
knows that we know and holds us responsible to act. Proverbs

What a Great Day with Iris

Today was great with Iris.  After breakfast we headed out to visit a temple here in Wuhan.  Our guide showed up around 9:30am and started walking.  It took us about 40 minutes to walk and it was very hot.  We were afraid it was going to be to much for Iris but once we got there it was awesome.  We climbed up towards the temple and once we got to the temple we found a few kids and moms playing in a nice shaded area.  Iris immediately started following the kids.  Before long the kids were playing with her and having a great time.  She had some real friends now.

The mothers started giving Iris fresh fruit to snack on with their kids.  They loved watching Iris and through our guide we visited with them.  They asked a lot of questions and we gladly answered.  They wanted to know where we were from, why are we adopting, why are we adopting since we already have two biological kids, why adopt a child with eye problems, etc.....

Our guide told me that one of the older ladies (looked to be a grandmother of one of the kids) looked at Iris and decided she would be a lucky child.  The older people can tell if people will be lucky or unlucky by looking at the childrens foreheads.  The other mothers also said Iris is lucky to be going to the USA.  They told us she is very beautiful and hopefully the doctors can help her eyes.  These people were very peaceful and great to spend time with.

Iris continued to get fresh fruit from the people so Melissa and I gave her some crackers so she would not eat all of their food.  One of the mothers motioned to Melissa not to give her those crackers.  She indicated they were not good for her and would make her fat.

I took a lot of pictures and also took some of the other children.  I let them see the photos on the camera and they got so excited.  I emailed some of the photos to our guide and she was going to try and email them to one of the mothers.

One of the kids had bicycle with training wheels.  The mother put Iris on the seat and let her act like she was riding.  Iris was thrilled to finally have some kids to play with.  She has been in such a good mood all day.  We went to Pizza Hut for lunch and then took a taxi back to the room.

Tonight is our last night in Wuhan.  In the morning we have to go to the adoption building a get our final paper work.  Our flight was scheduled for 6:30 pm which meant we were going to have to hang out at the airport for several hours.  Our guide made a few phone calls and got our flight changed to 3:30pm which will get us to our destination at 5:00pm (much better that 8:00).

We are excited to leave Wuhan and are ready for our second phase of this trip.  The people have been very friendly (other than the constant staring (I am not sure how to spell stare, stair, etc.?) but it is not a tourist town.

Enjoy todays pictures!
